Research In Motion (RIM) baru baru ini mengumumkan mengenai 3G phone terbaru dari jajaran BlackBerry Curve, yaitu BlackBerry Curve 9300. BlackBerry Curve 9300 ini diharapkan dapat mengulang kesuksesan BlackBerry 8520 Gemini yang juga berada di jajaran keluarga BlackBerry Curve.

BlackBerry Curve 9300 dirancang untuk memenuhi permintaan para pengguna smart phone yang menginginkan jaringan 3G phone berkecepatan tinggi (HSDPA). Smartphone ini juga memberikan fitur komunikasi yang luar biasa, sehingga pengguna bisa berkomunikasi ketika mereka berada di rumah, di tempat kerja ataupun di mana mana.

RIM sebagai produsen BlackBerry ternyata tidak hanya terpaku pada pengembangan smartphone saja, produk laris mereka di pasaran seperti BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry 9700 ataupun BlackBerry 8520, terus diikuti dengan peluncuran produk lainnya.

Tanggal 27 September 2010, pada konferensi tahunan Research In Motion, CEO (Chief Executive Officer) RIM, Mike Lazaridis mengumumkan BlackBerry keluaran terbaru – PlayBook. PlayBook ini akan menggunakan BlackBerry Software OS yang disebut BlackBerry Tablet OS yang akan menawarkan dukungan penuh OpenGL dan POSIX.

RIM juga memuji kemampuan PlayBook untuk menangani konten Flash melalui Flash 10.1, sebaik aplikasi Adobe AIR. Papan tulis yang baru – yang digambarkan oleh Mike Lazaridis sebagai “tablet profesional pertama” mempunyai layar 7 inci, resolusi 1024 x 600 piksel, multi layar sentuh, berbasis Cortex A9, 1 GHz CPU dual-core (RIM menyebutnya sebagai “tablet tercepat yang pernah ada”), 1 GB RAM, dan kamera 3 mega piksel di bagian depan dan kamera 5 megapiksel di belakang lensa (dan tentu saja, akan ada konferensi video).

Akan tetapi, tidak disebutkan berapa kapasitas penyimpanan, meskipun pada perangkat tersebut diberi label 16 GB dan 32 GB pada bagian belakang panel. Playbook mampu merekam video 1080 piksel HD, dan dilengkapi dengan port HDMI serta jack microUSB. Selain itu PlayBook juga dilengkapi dengan Wi Fi versi 802.11a/b/g/n, dan Bluetooth versi 2.1. PlayBook mempunyai berat hanya 400 gram (atau sekitar 0,9 pon) dan tebal 0,4 inci (atau sekitar 1 cm). Spesifikasi PlayBook ini tidak berbeda jauh dengan spesifikasi BlackBerry yang lebih dahulu dibuat oleh RIM.
